"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" Arthur C. Clarke

Science 'not for normal people' Full Story

I came across this when I was working as my university's open day guide, when I realized the majority of the wanna-be students were interested in psychology, which the department was regretfully located at the farthest edge of the campus. After getting fed up with walking back and forth over and over, I asked a visitor why there is such a big interest in psychology. Her respond was simply "... you know, science is boring...".

This is while organizations such as National Centre for Biotechnology Education are trying to turn the boring thing more attractive to the school pupils. Either this happens because teachers are selected from graduates with less talents (namely talented graduates do not become teachers), or teaching is a less rewarding career, or both, can be subject to case by case study.

Fortunately students in developing countries still have a tendency for science, in which later decline is a distinct possibility. Before this happens, a big effort is needed to dramatize scientific concept and demonstrate how they are involved in daily life, and convince children that making contribution to it is not that big deal.
