Microsoft Ending Support for Windows 98 Full Story
I witnessed the rise and fall of Windows 95 and Windows 97, with my 80486-DX2/MSDOS 6.22/Windows 3.1 system, and now I'm the "last man standing"* again (you may even prefer to rank me Yojimbo): However, I don't feel entrapped: Although officials believe older systems are unsafe, I feel confident somehow: When most of the office systems are upgraded, hackers and virus-writers will not spend time on Windows 98 (I noticed that during the invasion of MS Blast virus: All the Win98 PCs remained uninfected) and as a result, I'll be safely neglected.
As a person whose profession is not IT, I feel a better choice for me is upgrading every 3-4 generations, or whenever I need a feature not supported by old systems (like the reason I switched to 98 from 3.1 was simply using IE), otherwise if I try to synchronize myself with Microsoft, I'll become a professional upgrader...
